Department of Aeronautics
Members of the Ozark Regional Airport Commission
are appointed by the Baxter County Judge with confirmation by
the county legislative body, the Quorum Court. Members serve seven-year
terms. The commission is responsible for overseeing all maintenance
and operations of the county-owned airport.
History
The airport northwest of Mountain Home was constructed
in 1965 by the local Industrial Development Corporation of the
Ozarks to provide air service for the industrial district, a 700-acre
tract. Funding was private. From 1966 to 1975, the City of Mountain
Home leased the airport, and a private air service leased it from
1975 to 1979.
The Baxter County Airport Authority was formed
in 1979 to develop and operate the airport. The name was changed
to Ozark Regional Airport in 2005.
Improvements:
- 1993 - a new passenger terminal building constructed
- 1993 - a new building for the Ozark Regional
Flight Service constructed
- 1993 - a taxiway extended
- 1993 - mid-field taxiway added
- 1994 - five-bay fire station constructed
- 1994 - above-ground fueling facilities
- 1995 - extension of the general aviation ramp
creating 48 aircraft tiedown positions
- 1995 - new 8,000 square foot hangar for the
FBO
- 1996 - general aviation ramp completed
- 1996 - taxiway B constructed for future hangar
development
- 1997 - taxiway D constructed
- 1997 - ramp lighting added for terminal area

The Arkansas Aeronautics Department was created
under Act 457 of 1941 as amended by Act 373 of 1965. The mission
of the agency is to create a safer, more desirable atmosphere
for the pilot, and at the same time, create and improve airports
to better serve Arkansas communities and industry.
The Department of Aeronautics provides staff to
support and implement the program duties for the agency which
include inspection/licensing airports-navigational facilities,
administration of State Airport Aid Grant program, promotion of
aviation safety by sponsoring Certified Flight Instructor Clinic
and Inspection Authorization Clinic, Aeronautical Chart, Airport
Directory, Wire Marking/Windsock program, support services for
aviation planning with Federal Aviation Administration and local
governments, aviation education/annual art contest and Fixed Base
Operator (FBO) Line Training Video Series.

records: a) mailing lists for airport and airport managers, b)
grant history for Arkansas airports, c) airport inspection records,
d) licenced airport records for public owned airports, including
capital improvement plans for each airport, e) current state aeronautical
chart, and f) current airport directory.
